Being a lawyer on #Insta can be a bit like #DadDancing. You might think you look cool, but everyone else is likely seeing something different.
Look at the numbers
‘Insta’ is not a natural environment for the traditional law firm.
That said, the numbers don’t lie: 200m+ Instagram-ers visit a business profile at least once a day. Over 70% of them are younger than 35. If you want to be where your potential clients already are, you will want to consider Insta.
As a Facebook product, Insta will encourage you to sign up with your Facebook profile. You will presumably want to keep your work Insta distinct from your personal Facebook. You can do this by simply creating a new account and then linking it to your business FB page. This will also allow you to access the FB analytics to give you a better idea of your impact.
Select a username that ties in with your other Social profiles. Then complete your profile, using your logo as your profile pic and including a link back to a page on your website.
Find your brand voice and stick with it. You might find that Insta allows you to be that bit more creative in how you communicate with your followers.
Repurpose your Content
Insta is essentially a graphic medium. This doesn’t mean that you can’t simply repurpose your content, rather you can use imagery to engage your followers. Canva.com is particularly good for this. It has a great stock of images together with templates to match your intended use.
Once engaged: signpost. My preferred hack is to go for “link in bio”.
Effectively use, #hashtags can help Insta users find your relevant content. Do a bit of research – this is an opportunity to show you are #downwivdayuff
Tell a story
Beyond mere graphic, “Stories” lets you add short video clips. This feature has become increasingly popular in recent years. Whether it is consistent with your brand voice and objective is another matter. I’d suggest that you first find your feet on Insta before revisiting this function.
Time is money
The time commitment for Insta is limited. A few posts per week will keep your profile current. As with other forms of social media, be aware of how valuable your time is doing something else. Then do that.
